Aluminum heads: don't over tighten. Use an extension that grips the socket better than the socket grips the plug or you'll be fishing the socket out with needle nosed pliers. Do one in front first so you'll know for sure if the socket grip is right. Getting it back out of #7 or #8 is a PITA...
Thanks all. The total turn time for this rig was about 6 weeks. I ended up angering the MD inspection gods who decided I needed upper and lower ball joints and tie rod ends on both sides. I did most of the work myself but ended up paying my regular mechanic to finish it up while I took the...
So I did my MD inspection today on the new 03 4x4 and the guy said I needed upper and lower ball joints on both sides. I've been driving this truck for about 200 miles now and it does not shudder at highway speed, tracks true, makes no clunking noises going over speed bumps and small potholes...
295/70 17 Terra Grapplers. Bit too wide and noisy for an old fart like me but I like the height and they have good tread left.

Here's a pic of the truck. Still no name but I'll wait for my wife to drive it and see what she thinks. She has a talent for appropriately naming vehicles...
The kids have never known their daddy to have a real truck so this is a new experience for them. Biggest I've had with them is a Cherokee...
So I picked up this truck about 2 weeks ago for $3,500 with a blown rear end. The pinion just flops around. Just got it up and running, tagged and test driven yesterday!
I found a donor 03 with what I hoped was a good rear end and grabbed it lug nut to lug nut including disks and calipers for...
03 service manual and parts manual work fine for me when pulling from Google drive.
Many thanks for these! I ordered a year of ChiltonDIY online last week and was extremely disappointed in the lack of actual information and the lack of refunds. For example: To remove the steering rack and...
Getting ready to do my 03 1500 QC. I'll be replacing the PS pump, high pressure line and adding a filter to the return line first. If the leak and noise clears up (I don't think it will) I'll install the R&P from a donor truck and moog tie rod ends which I already have. The only thing that...
New guy here.
Picked up a pretty cheap 03 Ram 1500 the other day because the rear axle was blown. Not afraid to do a little wrenching so I grabbed it only to find that the rack and pinion was also shot. I got a 9.25 LSD (3.92) and an R&P from a donor 4x4 of the same year with a 5.7 engine...
