I just got a boat. It's got a 2001 Mercury 60hp 4 stroke. Anyone know what the recommended oil is? I should know this but I guess that's why I'm here. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1429205791.775426.jpg

The motor has a quicksilver filter, which is mercury. QuickSilver's website recommends 25w-40. Mercury actually sells complete oil change kits but i'm not sure if there's a cross reference between filters.

25-40 is the right oil for that motor. Yes there are aftermarket oil filters out there, but I would not go there, stay with Mercury products for your motor. Bias no experience yes.
