I got my dad's 2003 1500 QCSB 2wd. It's got the 4.7 with ~95k mi.

Fuel economy is CRAP! Performance is sub par. However, he kept it near impeccable condition.

He talked about lowering it, as he had knee trouble and getting in/out was sometimes difficult. I joked with him about dropping it and putting some 20s or 22s on it. We saw one similar to his that was lowered with nice billet wheels and he really liked it and wanted to do it to his. He did put dual exhaust and Flowmaster 40-series mufflers on it, but that's as far has he got.

Sadly, we lost him back in March. He left the truck to me, but I've not yet picked it up, as I'm not certain my mom is ready to let go. I'm not rushing her, either.

I was just wondering what, if anything, can be done with the 4.7L to increase performance and/or economy? I mean, my 2500CTD has better economy that this truck does. It gets 13-14mpg city, and, on a good day, 17 highway.

Currently running OE 17s (had 20s on it when he bought it, but they got hustled in Dallas.)

I know exactly how you feel about the mpg and performance. I picked up a SC 3815 for my 4.7, haven't put it on the performance tune yet, but I hear that yields the best mileage and power, besides the 87 tune. I've read where the Mopar H.O. cams are good for about 30 more HP, but then you have to install them and they cost 300 bucks.

I have the H.O. Cams and H.O. Cyl heads on my 04 4.7. They give it some guts. Haven't got my tuner on it yet

I have an 06 4.7 there are a lot of things that can be done. Basic maintenance could be needed. Throttle body cleaned, new spark plugs, Sea Foam, clean the air filter. As far as performance all depends on what your budget is, goals, and what you want to do. You can do a Superchips programmer, aftermarket intake, exhaust, headers, upgrade the gears, HO cams.

They got ya going in the right diection. Depending on how the truck was driven a PCM reboot might wake up the truck a good amount. My dad drives his 05 very slow so it performs like a dog until the PCM has a hard reset done.

if you have the time and money i think that would be cool to lower it and put 20's or 22's on it like your Dad would have wanted.

My 05 4.7 got the same exact mileage, I never did anything to try to increase it though. I owned it before I really got into forums and modding.

I'm really planning on doing this. We'll see how it all turns out. Thanks for the suggestions/info, guys.
