Looking at a 2012 Ram 3500 Laramie Limited 4X4 to use to pull a goose neck horse trailer. Trailer weight is 7,000 lbs plus 2 horses for 2,400 lbs. Gear and tack 400 lbs. Its a living quarter trailer so not sure what to add for water....make the total approx 10,000 lbs. Assuming a hitch weight of 20% that means our payload is 2,000 lbs hitch weight, 600 lbs for 4 people plus gear and misc....apprrox 2,800 lbs.
I was really disappointed to find the GVWR is only 10,100 lbs for this model leaving a payload of 2,560 lbs for a 1 ton truck! This unit can't legally pull a 10,000 lb trailer.
Please tell me I'm looking at this wrong.
