Transmission will not stay in the neutral setting for recreational towing behind and RV. Did as manual said, transmission in Park and pushed the neutral selector and got a red blinking light and showed neutral on the dash. About 30 seconds later I get another message, switch to 4 wheel drive setting failed return to previous position. I did this several times but it will not stay or go to the neutral setting. Anybody know if this is an electric issue or mechanical? Called three dealers in area but only get service writers who don't know much about the mechanics of transmission and can't get a mechanic on the phone. This is a 2013 Ram 1500 4X4 Hemi with auto trans.

You have to put the parking brake on, the transmission in neutral (not park), then push and hold the neutral button on the transfer case control until the shift completes (red light stops flashing). Then put the transmission in gear to test if the transfer case is actually in neutral.
