    I'm looking for some opinions on the 2500 6.7 Cummins. I currently have a 2014 1500 5.7 and have the opp to swap over to a 2015 2500 6.7 Cummins. Can anyone tell me about the maintenance on the 6.7 vs the 5.7? Is the upgrade worth it (I know 95% will say yes) just looking for some info on what to expect should I trade mine in and get the Cummins. Thanks in advance

    Diesel fuel generally costs more. Fuel mileage is less than a 1500 when left completely stock. Oil changes every 5-7k miles and take 3 gallons of oil ~$80 if done at the dealership. Fuel filters and airfilter need to be changed every 15-20k miles ~$100 just for filters. DEF needs to be topped off occasionally. Will not smell like a diesel unless you remove the emissions equipment.

    I love my Cummins even though I only pull our camper a few times a year. I could do it with a Hemi but it is so much more enjoyable with my Cummins.

    Kinda what I expected. Also things such as brakes are more money. The one thing I did like a lot about the diesel was the stopping. Feels like it takes me 1/2 a mile to stop my 1500. Must be real crappy brakes!

    The new Cummins come equipped with an exhaust brake. That coupled with decent trailer brakes and the truck brakes last whole lot longer than in a 1500 pulling the same load.

    I get better fuel mileage out of my 2014 2500 4x4 than I did with my 2013 1500 4x2.

    That will depend on what you do with it. On highway unloaded I can match my '09 HEMI 1500 with my deleted '12 Cummins 2500. Pulling my camper I am +3-4 mpg

    Replaced the fuel filters right when I bought it for peace of mind for $105. Should last me about a year.

    Going to change the oil next month. Bought the filter already. Total should cost about $55. Has to be done every 6 months if you don't drive 15k miles in that time so $110 a year.

    Just put 2.5 gal of DEF in since the needle was getting to about the halfway mark. First time since I bought it. Filled it up 100% almost perfectly. Might have had an ounce spill out the top. That cost $8.35 over 2975 miles, or $0.003/mi.

    I live in DC for now and I drive in a good bit of stop and go and a lot of city. Fill up today was 17.62 mpg. Never tow anything. Diesel here is $2.25. 87 octane is $2.35. It was always cheaper when it was LSD. When it went to ULSD it became more per gallon probably due to the increased cost to further refine. For the past 3 years, at least in my experience, it has become cheaper per gallon.

    Didn't realize brakes are more expensive. I do my own work though. I know there is always an upcharge on oversize vehicles if you go somewhere.

    I drive diesel because I like it better. Nothing makes me happier than the sound of a clattering diesel motor, turbo spool up and whistle, and the torque. Off the line sluggishness I don't care about because I don't take off or drive fast anywhere. I've owned a few gas motors and a duramax. Not a fan of gear hunting (especially the dramamax) and shift down engine scream up hill.

    Also, I'd wear diesel fuel as a cologne if my wife would let me. Love the smell.

    From 2014 Eco- diesel LL CC 4X4 to 2015 2500 LL CC 4X4

    I'm your poster boy - bought the 14 Eco- diesel - did not pay attention to the details regarding towing capacity - after looking at. A measly 6900#s I proceeded to trade my rode in for a 2500 HD 6.7 L CTD LL CC 4x4


    BEST MOVE I ever maid next to marrying my wife ! YOLO :happy107:

    In my opinion, unless you're gonna tow more often and more weight, get a 2500.

    Otherwise keep a 1500.

    The 1500 is a lot more comfortable. Yes the 2500 has rear coils but nowhere near as comfy as my 2013 1500 sport.

    I did need more towing capability so I upgraded to my now 2014 2500 Tradesman.
    IT IS A BEAST to tow. I am up in the 20k lb towing range which means I will need a 3500 BUT it handles it like a champ. No way I could to remotely close to that with a 1500.

    Most I towed with my 1500 was 11,400lbs of caliche and it felt pretty damn sketchy. When I towed the same load with my 2500, it was like a joke.

    YES maintenance WILL BE MORE than a 1500. But, if a diesel will meet your needs, it is worth every penny of it.
