2500 Stock tow package hitch capacity

I bought a trailer hitch from a 1996 2500 diesel auto tow package... I wanna know how much weight is it rated for? what class is it? i plan to tow a 4000 pound trailer with my 5.2 4wd club cab 1500.. i wont be towing often maybe 3 times a year.. i just wanna make sure the weight can be supported

I believe all the tow package trucks had Class IV receivers on them.

Sadly there are no markings in the steel to say what they truly are. But I would agree that it is most likely a class 4. You will have no problems pulling that trailer.

grade 8 is usually a great choice.

does anyone know what size bolts to use? the ones i bought are big soo i can only like up 4 out of 6 of the bolt holes...
