I believe that I read somewhere that the software does not recognize the difference between the 26 gal tank and the 32 and I was wondering if anyone had any more info on that. This week I decided to temp fate and after my mileage calculator went done to 0 miles left I keep driving all week on empty. Today I put 28 gallons in so it obviously wasn't corrected with the most recent software update. Anyone experiencing the same issue?

Haven't heard this issue. So you're saying when the gauge gets to E, there's still 6 more gallons of fuel in the tank? Or is it just the mileage, Distance till Empty portion?

Yes either the reserve is 6 gallons or the calculation is based off a 26 gallon tank. I swear I saw a post about it being addressed in an update but maybe I'm losing it.

I just tested the 32 gallon tank on my 2016 Ram 1500 as soon as the fuel light came on and it took 24.5 gallons to fill. The software update for my model was supposed to become available in the fourth quarter 2017 and I will be checking to see if available.

My 2013 was like that. 32 gallon tank and the most I was ever able to fill it was like 27 gallons with the needle on dead E.

I've been on E or close to it...24 gallons is what I've been able to put in....and I have the 32 gallon tank.

First oil change coming up in December or January sometime....we'll see if the software update is out yet. Its been reported 3rd-4th quarter 2017...but I haven't seen any posts on it yet...on multiple forums.

Nobody clicked my link?

Maybe it's me.... My Ram is the first "domestic" vehicle I've owned. Previously, I've only ever owned foreign cars. But they all had one thing in common: gas light and needle on empty still gave me around 100km of driving.

My Ram, based on my current fuel mileage, gives me about 120km of driving once I hit empty. To me, that's nothing out of the ordinary. And yes, I do have the 32 gallon (121litre) tank.

If you guys have 5 gallons left, at 15mpg you have 75 miles of driving before you're truly out of gas. Is that unreasonable?

I have the 32 gallon tank as well. My gas tank was on empty with light on and like others can't add more than 26 gallons. On another thread heard this was gonna be addressed. I just completed my second service and it seems my UConnect software was updated to most recent but no change in DTE fuel calculation.

I've been waiting for the update to come out as well, I don't think it's out yet since I haven't seen anyone post anywhere that it has been corrected.

Hi everyone,

I was able to confirm that the brand is aware of this concern and is working to provide a resolution to customers as soon as possible. The tentative ETA for the fix to be released is during the 1st quarter of 2018 however this is subject to change. I will post any updates I receive on this thread, we appreciate your patience during this process.

I still don't understand the big deal about this... you WANT to have reserve in your tank when the gas light comes on. I have a 32 gallon tank and when my light comes on it will take 26 gallons. That means 6 gallons of reserve which when you're only getting 16 mpg on average is not really that much. I've driven my truck down to where the miles til empty says less than 20 and it took 29 gallons, which is perfect IMO. I have a hard time believing this is a software issue. The whole point of a gas light is to warn you that you are getting low and should fill up soon. You don't want it to be exact so that when your miles til empty hits zero you are completely empty and the truck stops driving.

This is the exactly the point I try to make on these threads all the time lol I really don't understand why everyone complains about this so much. Having a 6 gallon reserve when your gas light comes on is silly if you drive a Honda Civic and get 35 mpg. But when you're driving a truck and averaging 15... I just don't get why people think that is somehow wrong. Personally I don't want any "software update" changing how my miles til empty and gas light are calculated. I like it just how it is. You don't want to be running your tank to almost empty anyway. Fill up when the light comes on and go about your business.

The reason is by your numbers 15 mpg X 6 gallons = 90 miles. 90 miles is a lot to have left for a reserve. 30-50 might be a better reserve.

People are complaining because they know there is a flaw, and it still hasn't been fixed YEARS later. We get it, we know that we have 6 gallons left when the light is on, but it still doesn't change that there is a software issue.

Everyone has their opinions but this effects the remote start also. Low fuel light on and no remote start. I don't have the fancy instrument cluster and If I fill up when the light comes on there are still 6-7 gallons in the tank. This is very irritating to me. If I drive it to where the fuel gauge is setting on empty There is still 3 gallons left. My 3rd gen with a 35 gallon tank didn't do this. I tow most of the time and get around 10 mpg. I need to travel as far as is reasonable between fuel stops.

I contacted FCA and the final answer is the flash update only goes back to 2014 models. Us guys with earlier 4th gens are out of luck.

Yes I want a reserve and that is what the low fuel light is for. They way it is now the problem effectively reduces my 32 gallon tank down to 29 gallons.

If you use all 32 gallons of fuel, you will be stuck at the side of the road.... I don't understand what the problem is.

Here in Ontario, anyways, along the trans Canada highway there are rest stops roughly 75km apart. So, let's say I'm driving along, just pass a rest stop and then my fuel light comes, it might be 75km before I can get gas. Thankfully, the truck gives me just over 100km of gas as a warning.
