So I bought a 4.7 with 113K miles. Got 117k now. Its been good to me so far. Changed thermostat, water pump, radiator, E-fan swap to. Radiator looked clean when I flushed it when I got it. After reading horror stories about the 4.7, idk what to do. I like the motor for what it is but I got the idea this this things just gonna go at anytime. Should I trade the truck while its running good? A rebuild of the motor or a hemi swap is out of budget. Id just like to know some first hand experience about this engine and how many miles this thing could chug to. Did I screw myself by getting the 4.7? 03.

Your so screwed........

Seriously tho I’ve got a couple friends that have 4.7 rams with quite some miles(one coming up on 300k). Seems like a durable motor from there side.

I have a 4.7 with 154000 miles I maintain and do all services on time once you take care of it and I suggest getting a oil catch can. Take care of it and it will take care of you that’s my opinion

The 4.7 is a good motor for its size .Chrysler has had a few issues with 5.7 from time to time the reason the Hemi is such a good engine they have spent time improving on it .They didn't do that to the 4.7 i feel if they had kept around it would be as good as the hemi.

I think Dodge did get it right (08+), but about the same time, they killed it off in favor of the Pentastar. I had an 09 Ram 4x4 with the 4.7 and had no issues. MPG was about the same as my 2wd Hemi.

I'm missing 2 cylinders
I had an 07 4.7 for 3 years with around 110,000 miles when I sold it. Never had a single issue.

I had an '03 4.7L that was fine until the oil pump started to go at 145K. If I'd caught the pump wear earlier I might still be diving it today.

I had a 04 Dakota CC 4x4 with the 4.7, ran flawless to 235K, then had a head gasket blow some coolant into the exhaust. Used M1 5w30 every 3-5K, no deposits when repaired .traded it shortly after. I thought it was a great motor.
