46re trouble HELP!!!!

    I have a 1996 ram 4x4 5.9l with 196k Recently the transmission went out of gear and will no longer shift and throws code p1759 for the Governor solenoid. I went ahead and changed both the pressure and Governor Solenoids (BORG WARNER), replaced fresh 6Q of ATF+4 and same issue same code. Also changed the speed sensor same thing???? Any ideas before I waste more fluid and MONEY ... I am broke and need truck for work so any help will be great.. OH and there was no metal pieces or chunks in the pan when I dropped it ...

    If the sensor is new and you're still getting that code, more than likely the old was still good. Sounds like clogging in the valvebody

    Don't take apart the valvebody unless you are absolutely sure you can get it back together.

    If it is in fact a clog, you can do a couple things. Remove the manual lever and pull the manual valve. In order to remove the manual lever you need to unbolt the throttle lever assembly and pull the C clip holding the throttle lever to the manual lever. My memory is a little foggy from when I did it. But that will allow the manual lever to move enough to pull it off.

    Once you have the manual valve removed, you can take an air gun and blow about 10-15PSI into the hole there. Maybe put some ATF+4 in and blow it out some more. Just be careful not to put too much pressure in or you might damage a seal.

    Otherwise, the only way to clean the valvebody is to take it apart, or just run new oil through it until it clears out.

    Well i took it apart again and found i did not plug the govenor sensor in all the way. This seems to have fixed it then today driving back from work when slowing down and downshifting it started making a loud nasty sound, i pulled over and check the fluid all ok but could smell like burnt oil now reverse is gone . Im no genius but im sure its toast. Thank you all for the help

    Did it sound like a grinding? I've heard of the parking sprag going bad and sticking, causing this issue and killing reverse.

    Either that or the rear band. If its the rear band, putting it in manual first will cause it to act improperly.

    Or if its the front clutch, then third and fourth gear will have problems.

    Either way, just from what i've read, it sounds like a rebuild.

    Thank you so much for the Video , I watched the whole thing and have come to realize that it is above my skill set . I found a shop that will drop it,rebuild it and Warranty it for 1200.00 all in unless anyone knows a good shop that cheaper in Phoenix Az,
