4th gen tailgate on a 3rd gen truck

Hey looking for a fast answer. I've seen pictures of 3rd gen trucks on the internet with the newer tailgates, but haven't found a lot of info on the installation. I just found a local tailgate for sale that's rust free, same color and a good price. Anybody on here successfully tried this?

Well I bought the tail gate but I'm running into problems removing my old one. The passenger side lifted right off but it won't slide off the driver side. The tailgate goes up and down fine, so any ideas why it won't just slide off?

Did you tug the **** out of it?? Lmao. Seriously tho give it a good yank. I've seenthem on 3G as well but don't look like it lines up very well as far as body lines

The passenger side lifts off as you already know and the driver slides off. Spray it with some WD-40 and if it comes down to get an 18# sledge. If it fit's post up pics, I'd like to have a back-up cam, but here's your quick answer - YES!

Yes over and over again. I've seriously been doing anything I could for about an hour to get it unstuck. I got the passenger side off but the driver side is stuck good. I'm trying to remove the mounting bracket to get the tailgate off then figure it out from there

If everything works well I do a full write up with lots of pics. For whatever reason I can't find good write ups about doing this. I'm super excited because I got a matching rust free tailgate for $160, it just needed a few parts to finish it

No, the handle and locking mechanism, topper and cover plate were all missing. But the old tailgate cover plate fit right in and I saw a video about fitting the old latches in so hopefully that works. All I need to order is a $40 topper

Done!!! It was a pain, but I was able to reuse all my parts, the cover, handles, and latches. I just ordered a cap, I'm looking for a blacked out emblem and I have to debadge and clean it up but it fits!

So its basically a direct fitment? And no weird body lines that dont line up?

The only thing I don't like (which I can deal with) is the body line under the ram badge. But if I can put a camera in the handle where it belongs then I can definitely deal wth that line

Awesome, Thanks. Can't wait for more pics. Is the top of the tailgate kind of an odd shape too? The pic of the black truck looks a little off

I still need to install the plastic trim piece on the top, it's in order. When it's on the top will be flat all the way across

There is a few lines that don't quite line up, but coming from a dented, rusted out tailgate, it's nothing that's too terrible. It does directly fit it, but check my write up later for some more details

It's indented and there are holes to clip the badge into. I don't know what year tailgate this is unfortunately so I can't speak for all the years, but mine is. I'm just gonna order a blacked out rams head and actually I like those badges so I'm happy about it
