Listening to some of the old timers. They said I should put my truck in 4x4 at least once a month so it gets used and doesn't mess up? Any basis to that? By the way I have the manual floor shifter.

Definitely try and use it. Don't go three years of never using it. Make sure it works. I noticed when I used mine last weekend for like the 3 rd time ever when I was decelerating it made a slight whining noise. Gotta have the dealer check it when I take it in for recalls.

Monthly? That seems like a bit of overkill. But there is some truth to what they are saying. At least a few times a year would be a good idea. This is one of the things I love about my Lifetime warranty. When it breaks it gets fixed.

Reason being is it helps oil lubricate this and that so this and that don't rust, seize or dry out. Not as much a big deal today as it was in the 70's. Or any old manual locking hub truck.

I throw mine in 4wd by accident just about every other week thinking I'm turning on the heat. I usually realize it pretty quick but the other day was in 4 wheel drive locked for more than just a few minutes. Scary.

I put mine in 4WD every few months or so just to lube everything.

i drove my old f 150 for about 400 km's (in the middle of an august heatwave) in 4 wheel drive at around a steady 100 km/h by accident. no problems whats so ever.

That is normal sorry to say. I had a big fight with the dealer last January about it because the older trucks with the new venture cases didn't have the noise but the trucks with the borg warner cases do.

I don't know how you can avoid using it if you're on stock tires, unless you never leave the pavement.

Yes. Old dude here. Keep things lubed. At least once a week for me. Once a month ain't enough.

They way I look at it is, if you don't have the conditions to have to put your truck in 4Hi at least 6 or 8 times a year you probably don't need a 4X4.:shakehead:

my 08 tundra manual said every month for lube purposes. I haven't looked in the Ram manual since its on CD. I still do it though either because I need 4x4 or if it's been a slow month out in the field, just for maintenance purposes.
