It is from my truck, 2015 3500 Longhorn SRW. It is optioned out and the weight of the options totals up quickly. I only posted the placard to show that the manufacturer publishes the payload of the truck and for no other reason simply because the OP was asking about 2500HDs. With a 2500, it would be difficult to exceed any one of the other numbers before payload was reached.

Wow, those must be some heavy options. My 2500 has 3106 lbs of pay I believe. Cant remember the exact figure, but it's north of 3100.

I'm a new member and just wanted to add that that we live in a 36' 5th wheel that wieghs in at 13,300 lbs. We did a trip to Vegas from Santa Rosa, Ca. and back with our 2016 CTD 2500. With a pin weight of right around 3300 lbs, I was over on my rear axle by 220 lbs but within my tire capacity. I use an Anderson hitch and can't say enough about both truck and hitch. I can tell you the truck didn't break a sweat.

The Cummins is an 800 lb option. My longhorn 3500 is 3793 lb max payload

BARR0208 – I am new to the forum, I have a 2018 RAM 2500 Laramie 6.7 Cummins Crew 6'4" box (bought to hall motorcycles). We are looking at a 2015 Chaparral. What gets me is the curb weight of the RAM 2500 is est. 7100 (I add 250 to that) the GVWR is 10,000 by door sticker. The BW Patriot 5th wheel hitch is 260, the Chaparral says hitch weight is 1650. Payolad with hitch-me-trailer connected is 2160. I have found different RAM sites with different payloads one was 2,450 with my axle 3.42 - and other one that says it's one 2380. 70 lbs of groceries is a week worth...lol

Have you weighted your rig and trailer?

The Chaparral 329MKS payload is 2000 Dry weight is 10,340 with a GVWR of 12,340.

I think RAM was scared to raise the GVWR rating over 10,000 each axle rating is 6,000 each per the door sticker.

It's not just Ram and they aren't scared of anything. It's to keep the truck in a certain class. Virtually the same truck, a 3500, has GVWR up around 12,000#. I've heard future years of trucks will have some more differences between the 2500/3500 but for the year the OP is talking about they are pretty much identical. The only real difference is the the rear suspension which can easily be made equal or more capable than the 3500 with some aftermarket air bags or springs.

This whole debate has probably filled hundreds of pages just on this forum. It all depends if you want to stay under an artificially de-rated GVWR of 10,000#. Axle weights and tire loading capacities are what truly matter for safety. The weight police all swear you'll spend your life in prison if you exceed the GVWR but no one can ever seem to come with any case law or examples. It's up to you if you are okay exceeding the GVWR on a 2500. If not, get a 3500. Some areas also have higher registration costs and consider a 3500 a commercial vehicle.
