Why would they be any more or less difficult to set up than any of the other half dozen available ratios?

I thought the 4500 chassis series that run the 4.44 ratio had different sized differentials and gears but I'm just going from memory of what I've read over the last couple years. Also, up until now no one has mentioned this ratio much so I just didn't think much about it. That would be a great ratio, if available.

This whole thing is just so funny. Ram forces us to take the 3.73 that nobody really wants and then makes it ridiculously expensive and confusing to change it. I'd have to think there would be a line of folks outside the dealership if they'd offer a factory backed/warrantied swap to 4.30, 4.44 or 4.56 gearing that was anything close to affordable.

Like someone mentioned earlier in the thread, a re-gear for a few thousand dollars is a hell of a lot cheaper than trading and going to a diesel. This is the exact boat I am in.

Not to muddy the water here but...anyone else get gear whine from their factory 4.10 gears. Mine tend to whine around 60 -65. Just curious.

So I've been trying to do research on the 4.44 gears offered on the Aisin setup trucks but I'm ignorant as to all the details about rear ends and matching them up except for what I've read here and online.
AAM offers the 11.5" rear end/14 bolt 4.44 gears for "leaf spring only" rear axles. It's my understanding that the 2500 has the 11.5"/14 bolt rear but obviously it's a coil suspension. What would the suspension type have to do with the gears in the differential?
I'm thinking strongly of going to the OEM/AAM 4.44 in mine but am trying to figure out if they'll work and am just not finding the info online in all my searches. Thanks to anyone that'll take the time to teach me.

Don't all 2014+ rams come with 11.5 read ends. My 5.7 2500 had 11.5.

So, after reading this quite a bit, and researching sites like just Diffs, Diff wizard, and even AAM, i couldnt find the 4.56 for the 2500 6.4 hemi. Am i missing something? A link to what im looking for would be great!

No endorsements, but this may get you going. These are aftermarket gears, not OEM.

Here's AAM in 4.44:

The AAM 4:44 gear set to fit the FRONT 9.25" of the 2014 and up has a part number of D925444GS.

The AAM 4:44 gear set to fit the REAR 11.5" of the 2003 and up leaf spring vehicles have a part number of 40116812. The reason it does not fit the coil spring trucks is because the 11.5" gear sets for the 2500 are not interchangeable with the 11.5" gear sets for the 3500. The pinion gear, pinion bearing and tail bearing diameters are different.

Still not impossible to do with a bit more work for the coil spring 2500 if someone wanted to do the swap.

Thanks for this reply. Been wondering what the difference was from the 2500 coil to the 3500 leaf.....now I know.

They are easily changed. Just a bit more work while you are in there while changing gears anyway. A non-issue IMO. I'll be doing the 4:44 swap here in the next few months.

Are you doing the work or having it done? If you're not doing it are you having a shop or the dealership do it? If dealership will they still honor the factory warranty with the new size OEM gears? Lastly. ....final cost?

Thanks for your replies, I'm not a mechanic so it's not something I'm educated on. All your information is invaluable.

Pyle Brothers here in Baytown will be doing mine. I say:flipthebird: to the warranty when I drive it off the lot.

I will be supplying gears and all needed items, but the labor will be 1300. They are doing a couple other things for me as well. I will be using either my own HP Tuners and buy credits for it, or I will buy an Auto Enginuity for it. Still weighing both options since HP Tuners still requires me sending in my ECU. Also adding a 74030017 OE AAM 11.5" finned aluminum diff cover.

Hey I'm new to the forum but my truck was/is currently the Guinea Pig for nitro gears as far as what pinion bearing the gas trucks use. It should be done Thursday and my installer is gonna let them now exactly what they need to put in the kits for the gas ram 2500's. They just sent him a few different bearings so he could choose the right one. I went with 4.88 for my 35's.

Looking forward to it, although I'm not sure I would go 4.88 (most likely 4.56). But gears and fuel capacity (or lack thereof) are really the only things that make me think twice about a 6.4-powered Ram.

Honestly the only reason I chose 4.88 is because when these tires wear out I'm going to 37's or a skinny 38. Also my truck is not a daily driver. I'm getting it tomorrow at 930 am. I'm so damn anxious. Lol. Just pissed it's gonna be raining.

What were your OEM gears? I spoke to my local 4x4 shop near me and they quoted me 450 per axle for install plus price of gears. They like to use OEM gears or motive gear for quietness. I have 4.10 gears in mine and if I decide to keep truck I would love to go to 4.56 for a little extra punch.

OEM gears were 3.73. Picked truck up this morning. On the way out to the shop which is about 50 minutes from my house in Morgantown WV with my cruise set at 75 my truck would down shift on every hill and sometimes go back to 6th and then downshift again all on the same hill. Lol. Picked truck up today and the installer had done a couple break in drives since I had a long drive home. I split the drive home in half with a 30 minute break between them. I'll tell u I didn't get on it at all but with cruise set coming home it never downshifted once on any hill. Gonna get the break in process over as soon as I can.
