In theory you're right, however if it was strictly an MDS problem why are non MDS lifters and 5.7's in the 2500 with no MDS also wipeing cams. MDS maybe partly to blame but I'm thinking it's more of an oil or oil supply issue.

I agree with you and I don't think MDS is a widespread problem. It does however needlessly complicate the valvetrain.
