I've always been taught to never overfill an auto trans so I personally wouldn't add more than what it takes to get it to the top hot dot...

ok,

next time I have it on the highway I will check the fluid then. it still only reaches the 160's on the highway but ill check it and add accordingly to get it close to the top dot.

Yeah, the cold fluid check on the dipstick is worthless on these transmissions. If I went by my cold fluid level, you would think it was overfilled by 4 quarts.

In summer months, my morning commute gets it into the 168-176 degree range and I check it then with the parking brake set, transmission in neutral after cycling through the gears. First time I did this, I was actually about 1.5 quarts low from the factory fill. Have since topped off and rechecked as previously stated and all is good.

Will do! Probably won't be until next weekend by the time I get the pan and have time to change it. This will be the third I've had the pan off my trans in the last month

Ha first time I changed to the Dorman pan. The second time I added a drain plug to the OEM pan and put that back on. Changing to the MagHytec pan will be number 3...

Hope the Mag-Hytec pan goes well , no filter contact , nice fit and all .
I'm wanting to install a drain plug kit in my oem one , but I'd also like the extra fluid capacity and cooling finlets of an after market pan .

@Hemi395 , is the drain plug kit in the oem pan leaking or something ?

It's not leaking or anything, it's just I can see it being a problem in the future. You have to hold the bolt on the pan itself with a 3/4 wrench while you undo the drain plug and when you tighten it. Otherwise it spins in the pan and I can see that leaking after a while. I plan on doing a few drain and fills with TransMax before switching to C+ and I will be PISSED if it starts leaking with $12/quart C+ in it
