I posted a question earlier stating that I had problems shifting. I recently had my transmission rebuilt. Third gear syncro. Everything else was fine. But after the rebuild, I had trouble shifting in to 1-3, and especially 2nd.
The mechanic told me that they replaced the fluid with 80 140 synthetic gear oil. The transmission is a NV 4500, which requires the 75 85.
The rebuild shop replaced the fluid with the correct type but I'm still having shifting problems. i drove it about 300 miles with incorrect fluid in. Is there any possibility that damage was done??
Thanks, Brian

80w140 is way too heavy for the NV4500 and would definitely be the reason it's not shifting properly. It should take a GL-4 75W85 or 75w90 and there is a very high chance that the synchros were damaged by using the incorrect fluid since they are very picky about the fluid used.

Would that explain the problem with cold shifting? When I first start out, it's very hard to get it in 2nd gear, if the rpms aren't high. It will not go in to 1st unless setting still. And 3rd is a little crunchy.
However, once it's been running 20 or so minutes, it shifts normal.
Thanks, Brian
