Air intake advice

    As winter approached, it was time to swap the 'ol open element air intake with the factory airbox setup. This is the first winter that I have faced with my tune and I have found that my off-the-line acceleration and overall throttle response has improved noticeably with the plain 'ol factory air box.

    However, with heavy throttle input, my acceleration does seem to be missing a step compared to the open element.

    I'm thinking that there must be a good compromise between the responsiveness of the factory airbox and the breatheability of the open element. So, I turn now to the community for advice on aftermarket intake setups. What are your thoughts on the matter? Does your kit offer both improved throttle response and acceleration under heavy throttle? Are you using a totally custom setup with theoretically perfect dimensions that kicks ass? Perhaps I'm better just droppeing a K&N box filter into the OEM airbox?

    For my purposes, let's consider the fact that I need a setup that won't allow water/snow to get drawn into the engine. This is a huge advantage to the factory setup and why I always swap to it when winter approaches. I need a setup that's improved over OEM but still 365/7 usable in Iowa winter. So, let's discuss air intakes...for those of us stuck in quarter-of-the-year-winter-hellzones!

    Cotton filter in a stock box? Tried that? Same thing as a cold air. Also, what's wrong with an open element in winter? I live on the west side of Iowa and have never had an issue with anything like snow or water getting in whether it's with open element, factory box or any kit. Regardless of season or conditions

    I modified the stock air box and gained an improvement, under wide open throttle, when passing at highway speeds. Enough of an improvement that even my Sunday School Teaching Wife noticed it. She actually woke me up, from a nappy, shortly after I did this mod, to tell me how the truck "Really passes fast".

    Not sure which bothered more, the fact she woke me up from my nap or that she was stomping on the throttle, driving my truck.

    I'm interested as well, in the future I'd like to possibly have a snorkel. However I do not want to deal with loss of air intake to the motor.
