Anyone run a decibel output test on stock alpine system?

When I was younger and insisted every vehicle I owned required loud and painful systems, I built a setup with 2 sound stream SPL 10" subwoofers.

I got a kick out of each sub coming with a set of earplugs and a note about being able to play loud and low enough to cause heart arrythmias.

That's just good marketing.

You would think so, but I got the damn thing so loud it really was painful.

At one point they made really good stuff instead of really good marketing.

My 2013 Ram QC with alpine system I didn't test dbl it put out stock, has anyone done this before upgrades to see before and after. I tested mine today with a Decibel meter and was max 107.3 dba pretty much on every song to 110 when certain freq hit on certain music, mic was placed just above radio in center at the little storage thing. Only mods so far are infinity 3022s in each dash corner, jbl gx302 in center, sound deadened doors, rear doors jbl power series 2 ohm 6x9s. Stock sub box I filled with poly fill and added a bazooka tube dvc 2 ohm replacement sub. All still running off stock amp. I am thinking stock would be around 99dba. Also changed out my 8.4a radio to a 2015 8.4an. I am getting ready to install 2 12s with 1000 Watts rms amp, So wanted before and after #s. I turned up EQ to 3/4 bass 3/4 mids and 1 tick less than full treble, even set like that sounds good, only issue is a slight vibration in front door speakers when certain bass notes. I tested over a variety of music from rap(Cyprus hill, Cardi b, rock, ac/dc, pantera, top 40, Noah cyrus- make me cry, old school tone loc etc

I dont doubt that youre achieving around 107-100, but as a former audio competitor, you may want to measure output at different places. lower corner of the windshield or the lower corners of the kick panel under the dash. That is if youre truly just trying to find your max SPL before upgrade. Also cracking the windows an inch or two will also sometimes give a slight bump.

My highest SPL was 153.2 with 4 12" Kicker XPLs in my 1998 RAM SS/T in the 0-150 watt class :head3: As you can see 153 is no joke.

I'm guessing it was a 150w "cheater" amp running at 1/2 ohm? LOL

Well.... it was a single Kicker XS50 running the subs and a single XS50 running the mids and highs. So technically 100 watts combined at 4 ohm RMS. But the Subs were getting about 900w at 1ohm.

The good old "high current" amplifier. The size of a 500 watt amp, but only called a 50X2. I had a couple 25X2 made by Orion many years ago for the 100 watt and under class. Could still get good sound quality and mid 130db SPL.
