I don't mean to derail the thread on folding mirrors (although it's some good information for us new people), I chatted again with Ram customer care and found that ordering a Sport model is also done for the 2018 model year. I'm getting a feeling that all of the higher end 1500s are moving production over to the new style/plant in January, while the others (tradesman, express, etc) will stay as a 2018 at the Warren plant for now. I guess it's lucky for Ram that they have a new plant to migrate over to rather than having to make all those production changes and work out the kinks while still keeping up with customer demand at just one plant.

order standard power folding mirrors so the switch and module is there.

So you’re for sure that on a 2018 Ram 1500, I could walk over to a 2018 3/4-ton equipped with the power fold-away tow mirrors, take them off and plug them into the 1500’s door modules and everything will work just as it did on the HD? If they did, that would be awesome but if they do, that’s why I was asking why they don’t just do that at the factory if it’s supposedly that simple and hardly anything to it.

Naw, don’t sweat it, we’re actually the ones derailing the thread by trying to figure out why Ram doesn’t share those power fold-away towing mirrors with the half-tons...lol.

So if all this is because of a plant change, are they going to resume production of the higher end 2018’s sometime next year or does this mean this is it?

Personally, I'd find a leftover 17 and beat the dealer up like a red headed stepchild on it. You can make some pretty good deals right now. I bought my leftover 2014 (build date 05/14) with the right options I was looking for in Nov 2015 and they shaved almost 10 grand off the sticker which was only 30K to start with. After 18 months, they did what it took to move it and I'm smilin all the way home

I wouldn’t mind a ‘17 I guess, I would just hope that it’s a later 2017 with the same uconnect 8.4 with the pinch zoom navigation and the Android/Apple Car Play stuff. Other than that I really don’t think there’s too many differences between a 2018/2017.

The only real difference I can tell from 17 to 18 is the front grille. Its only a $1200 option after the fact (plus paint) if you get a 17 and want the 18 grille.

With so many 18's already landed and the all new 19 to debut in a month, I won't imagine much 18 ordering will be done and the 19 will be released or ready to order come May...

That has been confirmed incorrect. It may happen eventually, but not at launch.
I was wondering about that considering smaller, forced-air motors are becoming the wave of the future and big gnarly V8’s are slowly starting to become things of the past in the all-mighty name of fuel economy.
