Back up cam reverse tap..

hey @stimpy433 @McBroom anyonee else does that sounds right?


REAR - camera rca/power connector -> next wire, on one end connect rca and power to camera wire. other side has rca and red/black power wires.. here i used black wire to ground ( tapped into the neg on reverse light ). connected the rca.. However the red POWER i did not connect to a reverse wire.. instead i connected the power to the next wire which is the long rca/power wire...

FRONT - ran that wire through the car to thee front.. then rca to the HU and the power to HU reverse wire

sound right? or was i supposed to do something else in thee rear
the reason im asking is because i am pre installing it before i take her to best buy for the hu install.. so i have no receiver to test right now

i see in this VIDEO the guy hooked up oneee side of thee power to hs reverse on the trailer wiring and then again on the radio.. did i mess up

Do you have a link to the camera you have and also what HU are you getting installed???

i was worried cause i keep seeing everyone tapping in to the rear reverse light.. i said to myself why not just run the power to the front and tap into the reverse cable on the radio... i was worried the camera needs a constant power ( rear tap) and a trigger (front tap.. but that made no sense to me.. lol

the reverse cable sends out a steady power source while in reverse? or should i hook up the red power wire to the constant power in the back of the radio and the rca is the actual trigger.. ugggh lol

Wait, maybe I'm not reading your drawing right cuz you are gonna have to tap into the reverse wire otherwise that radio doesn't know when you shift into reverse.... let me look at it again.

Ok this is the factory trailer harness. Reverse is the white one right. Going to just tap there.

On the factory plug it's not the white one, it's the middle one...

Broke out the tv to verify I hooked things up right. We have success. It was the middle one even though it was black. Thanks guys for he help

AWESOME!!!! So you got it hooked up so when you put it in reverse it shows up on the monitor??? I remember when I installed mine in my Challenger, took me forever to figure it out... it drove me crazy!!!

Yup. Tv showed a blank screen. But when I put her in reverse. It popped up. Thanks stimp for the hand brother

Looks like your running a power wire into a ground wire. Look at the middle of the drawing

I’m not sure if it has changed over the years but mine is a 2005 and if you use the wiring harness coming off of either tail light, the reverse 12+ volt is the white with light green stripe. Now there are two wires that are these colors but the one for reverse is the outer pin location. I believe it is pin #4.
I am posting this because I have a 7 way plug on my bumper but my truck isn’t wired with the 7 wire towing harness, so there isn’t the center wire which is the reverse 12+ volt.
