Maybe Plastidip? Unlike paint, if you decide you don't like it, it peels off. Just start with very clean chrome.

Plastidip... i think i used 2 cans plus a metallizer for kicks... has held well for a year now despite az sun and heat and carwashes
When pic was taken.. coating was 11 mos old
The white dots are bugs... even that hasnt destroyed the coating. I probanly did 6 coatings total

Vynal wrap would take a little bit of time, but would last better than the plasti dip. It can be had off of amazon for like 50$ with a tool kit. I did my door handles, stuff holds up pretty good, easy to remove to. I may try and do my grill inserts next weekend since I still have some left in the garage- just need to go buy a heat gun
