Well, first of all I hope this is the right place. I bought a 14 Ft aluminum Crestliner and was wondering what people here would recommend for some sort of liner. I was thinking about doing the outside of the hull with a roll on bed liner. Any recommendations on which product to use?

I have an 18ft Crestliner for work. Bedliner is what we used.

I has an old 12ft boat that was a little leaky, my great grand father bought it new in '61. I used a roll on liner on the outside of the whole thing and it sealed all the leaks but it slowed the boat way down. I was only running the 6hp Evinrude that came with it when it was new but it ran like a top. I used rhino liner and the texture created more drag and it felt a far bit underpowered after the liner was on.

On the way the to the lake on morning some girl in her daddy's Tahoe blew a stop sign trying to take a picture of herself driving and smack the motor but it pretty much ripped the whole transom off. Stupid twat destroyed a boat that had been in the family for 60 years.

We didn't do any of the hull where it contacts the water. Sorry to hear about the loss of the family boat. That must have been maddening.

Sorry to hear about the boat.. Mine had an 18 hp Johnson that came on it and another 18 Johnson that came with it. They are off of it right now getting tuned up at the boat shop.

Is there any brand of bed liner that would be best?

Also I'm gonna make new wood benches and a new wood transom for it. Will wood stain or thompsons water seal harm the aluminum?

No chance those will harm the aluminum.

Good to hear. I'd really hate to have something with copper In them.

From a retired marine tech, if you are going to build a new transom and seats I strongly suggest you use marine grade plywood, it will last much longer than just plain old plywood. I would also suggest you have a look a Interlux marine paint and wood sealing products.

The old benches were 2x12's and we have a couple of those in the barn that I was planning on using. I'll definitely look for some marine plywood and look Into interlux
