Buying a Dodge

Hi all you dodge enthusiasts, My step dad recently passed and I am buying his truck. It is a 96 short bed with 177,000 miles on it. As far as I know it has nothing wrong with it. I am paying $1,500 for it. What can I expect as far as milage? I know some people that claim up to 300,000 on theirs. Any input would be appreciated

Gears?
4WD or 2WD?
Was your step dad into maintenance or have a shop work on it?
