I have a 2008 RAM 1500 with 3.7L V6. My truck recently quit twice when coming to a stop light. My CEN light came on showing CEN code P0430 and P0507. I changed out the spark plugs because I was due for a new set. The old ones were gapped really wide. Anyway, I ran the truck for about 2 weeks without issue. This morning when stoping at a traffic light, I could feel the engine stumble like it was going to quit again.

Anyone have an idea what may be causing the stumble and triggering the codes?

Thanks to anyone who has input. It’s to cold to be having vehicle trouble so I would like to throw the right parts at it to make this issue go away.

P0430 - Catalyst Efficiency Bank 2

Possible causes

Three way catalyst converter Bank 2 failure.
Exhaust tube or intake air leaks
Fuel injectors may be faulty
Fuel injector leaks
Spark plugs may be faulty
Improper ignition timing Engine Control Module (ECM)

P0507 - Idle air control system

Possible causes

Leaking air intake after the throttle body
EGR valve leaking vacuum
A faulty positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve
Damaged/failed/dirty throttle body
Failed EVAP system Failed IAC (idle air controller)
Faulty IAC circuit

Several things come to mind when I see these codes pop up together, They are related to intake air or vacuum issues:

1. The throttle body is dirty. If it is, clean it.
2. You may have bumped an EGR or PCV valve feed tube or rubber line. Check them to make sure they are in place and not cracked.
3. The EGR valve, which usually throws an EGR type code, may be failing.
4. The PCV valve should be replaced.

I am going to assume you got the plug gap correct because if you didn't, you'd get a P030X code.

I'd start with a visual inspection of the vacuum, EGR and PCV valve lines, replace the PCV valve and clean the throttle body.

Do you know where I can find a diagram that show where the bank 2 sensor is and which one is failing i.e sensor 1 or 2? Or a diagram that shows the location of the EGR & PCV Valve is?

I replaced both right bank sensors. They were completely toasted melted metal. Worst I've ever seen. I also tightened up all vacuum connections. After clearing the check engine light codes and taking the truck for a 15 mile trip, I'm no longer getting the P0507 however, I'm still getting the P0430? Does this mean I need to replace the catalytic converter? Is this a job I can do myself with muffler clamps or am I going to have to take it to an exhaust shop and get it welded on?

It might depend on where you live but I think you have to have them welded on.

sounds like I'm getting ready to spend a bunch of money. I'm thinking about running a bottle of CATACLEAN CATALYTIC CONVERTER & FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER first. Anyone have any luck getting rid of P0430 with this stuff?

Never heard of it but it's worth a shot. Best case, it resolves the issue. Worst case, it destroys your cat but since you would be replacing it anyhow....

CATACLEAN is about $35 a bottle. Maybe that money would be best spent toward a new cat.

I’ve decided to replace the “Y” pipe that has both cats. I looked under the truck today and it appears it bolts to the manifolds at one end and clamps at the other end to the pipe that leads to the muffler. My eyesight is not so good but it doesn’t look like it is welded anywhere. Does anyone know if I am correct that no welding is required and that I can simply unbolt the whole thing to swap it out?
