I own a super rusty 96 so I went and bought a much cleaner 98, but its drives me insane that the new truck has the cluster with a large gas gauge and no tach, while my old truck has the tach.. does anyone know if my 98 will have the tach plug and everything for a simple swap?

I don't believe it'll be that simple no. Layout isn't quite the same anyways, like shifter

Unfortunately no, 94-97 are different clusters than the 98-01. Different cluster plugs on back and fitment is different.

94-97 use a direct hardwire for the gauges. 98-02 use bussed messages from the pcm.

Maybe you could use an aftermarket tach and mount it in the pillar.
