So here's the story
I've been planning to make a torque tube to teplace the stock one with baffles in it since I ranked the silencer ring a few weeks ago
Found an airraid quick fit aibox with synthaflow for $50 shipped
It looked really dirty in the guys picture and was worse when it showed up

Didn't know the bottom was covered in rust

So I had another project on my hands but I was excited cause theres a bead blaster at school

Already got a quote from Dave a few days ago
The guy thought it was a dry filter which woul have been perfect
I'm glad I ran the part number and didn't just assume he was right
You can tell in the fits picture it hasnt seen a drop of oil do I've already recharged it

O yeah the machine shop here at penn state is 15x what my highschool shop was although neither sand blaster ive used here is as nice as the one at my high school
We did some cool **** in my high school shop but nothing like what I can do here! You might enjoy watching this thread: http://www.ramforum.com/f26/battlebots-combat-robots-13320/
I finished painting, clearing and wet sanding today!

I wish it was another color then grey because it just looks like metal lol but both are now color matched
Should be able to get them in tommorow. I'm hoping and praying that the torque tube fits. I was shooting for 5.5" OD but no matter how I pulled the sheet metal from the roller it would flatten out a bit so when I welded it the best i could really get it to was like 5.62" on the bead but the rest is like 5.4"
I threw it on a hydraulic press and played with it some so now with paint its 5.55" at the bead/ largest OD so I think it will fit!

So how much is too much oil on the filter?
I've done my quads K&N filter but with that i pretty much spray the **** out of it and say F it since I clean it every other ride. This isnt nearly the same! lol Theres warnings everywhere that say not to over oil but how much is that exactly?
I went over it twice and its definitly covered well but its not the bright red you usaully see from these filters, any tips?
I'll be getting a prefilter before her and I head home 120 miles to the dirtroads for easter.

If you know anyone with a sheet metal roller I know your more then capable of makeing one too haha
I just got a sheet of 8"x24" 16ga steel from lowes for $13 dollars, sheared it to 17.25" and rolled it to 5.5" OD and mig'd it
Hell I could shear, roll and ship you one for cheaper then what they cost you'd just have to weld and paint haha

Installed earlier this afternoon
9d0eee0f.jpg
I put the airbox and filter in and went for a quick ride, didn't really notice much difference in the sound
When I got back I put in the torque tube I made
Here's why I replaced it!

You can kinda see it installed

Holy hell does it sing now!
The tube makes a hell of a difference in sound atleast

That sounds ******* SWEET!!!

I wouldn't say that I really noticed any difference in power, with more go fast parts it might be more noticeable
I know you were trying to get more whistle, definitely would be worth it for the link I sent you!
Have you looked to see if the previous owner yanked the baffles from your stock tube?
I would still replace it since theirselves are ribs on the wall

So I reset the overhead lie-o-meter and have been watching it
Last night I averaged 18 mpg driving around town according to the over head, today it was 16.5

Reset it for our 120 mile trip home, usually avg. 18 on the overhead, was at 18.5 today but had a strong head wind and alot of traffic. I use cruise control the whole way almost as well. Hopefully see a little higher on the way back
Can't tell you what hand calculated mileage is because I hand pump fuel into it lol

Incase anyone cares I measured temps with a IR thermometer when I got home, after 2.5 hrs of driving the turbo housing read 348*f, the heat shield over the exhaust manifold read 196* and the torque tube read 109* but it hardly felt warm to the touch so I think the thermometer was picking up some emistivity from the exhaustmanifold
I was a little worried about the heat melting the paint on the inside of the torque tube and also heat radiating into the airflow but after feeling how warm it was (well was t) I feel alot better

Those are good numbers considering the size of the truck. You plan on getting a programmer or module for it?

Eventually
Its not really on the top of my list or budget lol
She's probably goig to get new wheels in the fall/christmas time cause I hate running the spacers. A lift probably next
I'm just a little gun shy to run one one it since turning a tuner up more then 40 hp on it will slip the clutch and after having 9 injectors go last winter between this truck and the 09 because of a fuel problem I'd like to upgrade to and airdog around the same time

Go fast parts are the plan after her and I are done with school an can afford to have problems with the truck lol

That baffling piece looks great. I don't have access to the shops, so I had to buy mine from Geno's and love it!

Back to school, averaged 20.1mpg at about 60-65 mph over the 120 miles back
Makes me curious what the actual mileage is
