Anyone know how I could keep this little bad boy cool? Just now while adjusting the gain. This little thing was way too hot to even handle...

It's mounted via Velcro under my rear seat.

I dont want to assume anything, but if its getting that hot regardless of time of year you are driving it too hard or your clipping like crazy.

It's 112 outside... Probably 130 in truck... Gain is around 45%

That doesn’t mean it’s no clipping or tuned right. My truck is black and in Florida and gets plenty hot but still amps run “cool”. Again not assuming but a clipping amp can run much hotter than it should

I’ve pushed my system hard while off roading in the desert and on Vegas runs, never had a problem. Then again I always have my air conditioning cranked.

I’ve been in 120 before but that was in Havasu and there was a lot of beer and water involved.

If it doesn’t shut off from protection then don’t bother with it. A lot of these new amps have the chassis as the heat sink instead of a dedicated one (makes them a lot smaller). Because of this they get hot just being turned on. It is nothing to worry about unless performance suffers.

Yeah, the new Kenwood xr models are TINY. And no performance issues.. was just wondering if I should find a way to set it on something other than carpet. My wife's uncle has a big shop at his house was going to look into making a small amp rack for the back wall of cab. And build a sealed enclosure for this w6.

Yea like mentioned above, as long as the amp isn't shutting down I wouldn't worry too much. I have had amps in the past that get hot to the touch but keep on truckin

See above as my one amp you could fry an egg on, yet it never skipped a beat. But yes you may want to keep it away from the carpet if it’s that hot.

Back 25 years ago when I had a huge system with three amps, we used brushless fans like you see on PC towers. They worked great if you had them properly grounded so you didn’t get engine noise.

My amps are mounted to back wall using rivetnuts, so plenty of heat dispersion if needed and they are out of the way.

I might also build a rack with two supports and just let it sit suspended over the storage cubby... Hmm
