Kind of just pure curiosity... but I was wondering the weight difference between the Cummins and 6.4 Hemi engines. I have seen around that the Cummins weighs around 1050 dry. But I cant find info on the 6.4 Hemi. Any of you guys know? I was thinking maybe 600? Im just wondering what the real weight difference is between them.

I was thinking of comparing two equally spec'd 6.7 vs 6.4 trucks on Ram's site but it doesnt give curb weights on the specs page for HDs...

Google "Ram BodyBuilder" and open it in Internet Explorer. It will tell you the curb weights. I would link it but I am on my phone.

Well, my '16 cc 4x4 Laramie 6.4L/6'4" bed weighs 7110 lbs empty (gas light on too)... if anyone has run a similarly equipped Cummins across the scales, there you go.

Yeah, I think the shipping papers for my truck said the weight was like 6800 at the time of ship (with a couple gallons of gas) so, I guess with a full tank it's probably about 7-7100.

First time I actually dug around on the Body Builder site, really a lot of cool documentation on there. Couldnt find a specific line though for the engine weights. Dunno if I'm blind and missed it or what. I was guessing about 600-700 pounds for the Hemi though.

You could go to a rebuilder site or Jegs and see what the shipping weight of a crate motor or rebuilt is.

To answer your question I weighed a complete 6.4 for shipment to my brother over seas dry weight was 500.6 lbs on certified digital scale. I wanted to be sure I was not being overcharged.

I remember that when I was in the market the engine transmission combo was 1000 lbs heavier. That was a gen 3 so not sure now.

The front axle base weight for the Cummins is about 1000 lbs more than the 6.4

Had a 2005, 2500 4x4 cummins, 8' bed with a tool box maybe 20 box + 100 lbs of stuff, with me (195) and full of fuel it weighted 7,770.

I now have a 2017, 2500 6.4 Hemi with a 6.4 bed, no tool box but I had my 13 year old so the same as box and tools, fuel tank full but 10 gallon less weighed in at 7,650.

I was surprised to see only around 100 lbs difference. That is basically the difference in the fuel weight. i would have guessed that the extra length in bed and the cummins would have added more.

The 2017 does have the snow prep package so it has the 2" type receivers coming down in the front.

The 4th gens are bigger bodied/heavier than the old 3rd gens.
It is surprising that they are that close in weight though.

Big differences in the frames from 2005 to 2017. The newer 3/4 ton trucks are heavier than their older brethren.

I have a ‘14 2500 diesel 4x4 Big Horn, tonneau cover & power steps. I brought scrap metal in, they weigh you before & after. Subtracting my weight & my dads put the truck right around 4 tons with a 1/2 tank of fuel.

Huh? It's pretty clear that one could tell the difference in the two engines' weights by comparing two trucks with only the engines being different. I believe this is what people in a scientific profession call a controlled experiment. Amazing things are determined with laser like accuracy everyday using this method.
