So I've been hearing a grinding noise for the last week and it turns out that my CV shafts are gone. He wants $500 to fix both. He knows I look for aftermarket when possible so what should I look for? Is there a complete kit somewhere or do I need to go Ala cart? I'm assuming I need shaft and axle and boot! Is that correct. Where is the best place to look? Thanks for any help.

P.S I was also told I have an exhaust leak right where the y pipe connects to the cats. They told me this was a $700 part from Chrysler .... I got a laugh out of that can I just buy an magnaflow y pipe or is there more to it?

They are sold as a kit. As for brand, I'm not sure what to go with. I used NAPA as I stated in my thread, but those have proved problematic, but not sure why. Shop thinks it's the leveling kit on my truck, but factory one is still fine.

Is the $500 quote using mopar parts?

$500 is the quote with molar parts. I was thinking that wasn't too bad?

He wants me to replace both sides but I'm pretty sure only one side was bad. I think ill just replace one side and put the rest of the money towards fixing the exhaust leak. Anyone know if I can replace just the Y pipe on our system? I have original headers and original converter. My leak is where the Y meets the converter.

just got off the phone with the dealer, I was mistaken. $500 for just the left side. this includes the stub shaft where it meets the differential I guess. So I agreed to to spend the $500 for that side but I got them to throw in the wheel alignment. Not a good way to start the day. I still have to fix or replace the Rack & pinion and find a way to get a new Y pipe on this exhaust. The stock system shows the Y pipe connected to the Cat, the only way to get that stock Y pipe is to get it with the cat, which of course costs $700 from the dealer.

I would go to a muffler shop and see if they can weld the leak. if it just a connection that has loosened or what?
they charge about $20 per weld around here.
either way, they would be able to give you a better idea of what you need than a dealer that wants to throw new parts on it.

that's a good idea, I'll stop by my local shop and ask them to look at it. Either way I won't be using the dealer for my exhaust fix. I'll probably end up buying a new system perhaps the Magnaflow American thunder system but I still have to deal with this Y pipe since it's before the CAT. Might also look at Summit for a good deal.

Yeah it's prolly best to go ahead and get the cv done with the mopar part. Seems that they last a good while.

Well I decided to go with the Duralast CV axle because of the limited lifetime warranty and the fact that all at once it seems everything on my truck decided to break I needed to save some money. Well here it is. Now I'm just waiting for my exhaust parts to come in so i can get my truck back on the road.

Hope it does good for you. The NAPA ones have been lasting me a couple months tops. They are warrantying mine again, this is at least the 3rd one.

I hope so, I read all about the problems with yours and I won't be happy if that happens. I will probably only give this one shot, if it doesn't work out and only lasts a few months I'll go OEM but this time I just couldn't spend the extra money. $360 for OEM and only $65 Duralast Gold. OEM only warranties their part for 12 months or 12K miles
