Ok so I had a chance to get under there and trace some of the wires in that balled up mess. So far everything I've traced is connected. But is the status led supposed to be lot all the times or just when receiving a signal

Usually when the led is lit constantly it means that the unit is in "valet mode" which pretty much deactivates the unit.
