Just wanted to make a note here. It seems there is some confusion here on what rear diff fluid the 1500 needs and I am not the only one to have pointed it out I know. My paper manual says 75w90 in my 2017 with 3.21s and lsd so that is what I put in. But if you go in the mopar app, the in-app manual says 75w140 but if you click the open pdf option the pdf states 75w 90.

Anybody have confirmation from a dealer or anything on what it should be?

I believe depends on the year and whether it has LSD or not. I always ran 75W-140 in front and rear.

I bought my 2012 Ram 1500 used with 60k miles. For peace of mind, I want to change front/rear diff, xfer case and probably tranny fluid as well. Is there an way to tell from the VIN# what diffs/cases I have to know what to use?

I have no warranty issue as it's expired, so no need to worry about using MOPAR stuff- I have a buddy that does mechanical stuff for me that's beyond my abilities (not this lol, but bigger work) who swears by Amsoil, but I'm open to others' suggestions as far as synthetics.

There is a site where you can put your VIN in and get your build sheet (and possibly your window sticker) which would have that info. I’ll see if I can find it....

EDIT: copy this link into your browser and put your VIN after the “=“. This will get your window sticker.

Just did my rear fluid change today with the help of this guide. First time changing the fluid on a rear differential but it's super easy. It took me longer to find the 14mm hex bit than to change it. My set didn't go bigger than 10mm so had to find one locally which is a pain. harbor freight has a cheap set that got the job done if anyone else needs one.

Also the one quart pump didn't thread onto the redline bottle. Shoudve got the gallon size. It still works but you got to hold the pump and bottle at the same time which was a little tedious.

Most of the Gear oil test and charts I've seen or read have Royal Purple ranked near the bottom of the list [emoji106]
Mobile 1 , Amsoil and Redline seem to be consistently at the top of Gear oil list and other oil type list as well .

Hope this helps !02db646ec6896bc38302c42f1e6e1416.jpg
