It does need to be done , check your owners manual for your spacific interval though .
Hope this helps !
Owners manual for my 2012 just says to inspect it...not replace it. But there really isn't any way to check it...unless you replace it...lol.

YouTube it!!! [emoji2]

RLK here's the tcase pics. Fill and drain plugs are 3/8" square so any 3/8" ratchet or extension will work. Access to the plugs are on the driver's side, tag with case model number is on the passenger. As with the diffs, make sure the truck is level. Hope this helps!bf1ce75379028e6024e94b840338dfa9.jpga6d85589a5233efaa34f998519e77963.jpg

Do you "need" to do it? Probably not if you don't tow much. But the diffs and the tcase are so easy and quick to change the fluids in, you might as well. It's cheap and easy insurance.

You don't have to do Redline gear oil either. Mobil 1 makes a great gear oil and it's available just about everywhere. Just make sure you get the right fluid for the tcase. And definitely grab a fluid pump...

Don't need to do it.
Don't need to change the Engine oil for 6 months either but I do it about every 4 months or 5K miles. Makes me feel better, if nothing else.

Plan on doing this Front & Rear axle, plus the transfer case, oil change this summer and my truck has about 21K miles now. If I wait for 30K or more, it will be Winter here. Figure earlier is better than later.

Besides, easy work on the Ram is fun.

Good Write-up, RLK, as always

... If you have the Borgwarner 44-44, you will need 2 quarts of special fluid from the dealer. It must be made of unicorn tears because it's $28/quart.

LMAO !

Noticed that Redline's application page doesn't offer BorgWarner T-Case compatible fluid. Really must be made of unicorn tears!

Ha yeah it's absolutely ridiculous that it costs that much. Best price I could find online was $22/quart.

From what I can tell it's just ATF+4 with an added friction modifier for the clutch that gives the 4Auto setting.

Do you recall where you got that info? I have searched high and low for actual data on the stuff but come up empty handed.

It's just a guess really. It looks and smells just like ATF+4...

Sure I'll take some pics when I get home this afternoon.

There should be a tag right on the tcase that says what case it is. I'll get a pic of that this afternoon too. The two tcases on 13+ 1500s are the Borgwarner 44-44 or 44-45. If you have the Borgwarner 44-44, you will need 2 quarts of special fluid from the dealer. It must be made of unicorn tears because it's $28/quart.

The tcase takes about 1.5 quarts so you will need 2 quarts. Plan on ~$60 for that fluid.

Do you have the "anti spin rear differential" (posi)? If so you will need 5oz of of the additive so it won't chatter (unless you use Redline fluid). Should be able to find this on your window sticker. If you don't have posi like me, just grab some Mobil 1 fluid and refill with that. Hope this helps!

Really it's on Amazon? Awesome definitely get it there. $350??? As long as you have a pump its super easy to do. Definitely not worth $350...

Ok thanks to R.L.K and other most helpful members that have contributed to this thread I decided that i would give this a try on my own.I called my dealer and got the specifics on my truck I happen to have a regular non lsd diferential in the rear so i went with mobil 1 gear oil because it was at my local parts store .I did the rear and the front today and i did it for under 70 dollars for both . for the front I also got a inexpensive pump that made it fairly simple because the fill is hard to get to. thanks everyone for the information and saving me some money on this service. next week i will handle the transfer case when the fluid gets to me .

Great write up!

I did mine last week as well with redline oils. Truck was at 34k on original fluids and it looked pretty darn clean. I also inspected for metal debris and found little to nothing. I do lighter towing/hauling every once in a while.

For you guys with outdoorsman models the skid plate is in the way of the front but just 4 bolts that hold it on. It's possible to do it with it on but I would recommend taking it off for better access and ease of not making a mess while draining it. Oh and be careful the skid plate is a tad heavier than it looks. So when you're taking it off be sure to support it so it doesn't fall on your face!!

I got around to doing the transfer case fluid change today took advantage of the nice spring weather as its been raining for a couple of days here . with the 2 quarts of MOPAR 44-44 fluid I bought on amazon it cost me $42 to perform this service . the outgoing fluid was dark in color so I'm happy that I changed it out .took me all of 45 mins and that was taking my time because I've never done it before.Big thanks to all for the information on getting this done .I did the front and rear Differentials last week and now the transfer case today I should be good for a while
