Hello all I'm new to this forum. I have a question . I have a 99 ram 1500. Will the rims off a 2017 fit my truck. I've been told something about the back hub being bigger.any help on this would be appreciated...

If the 2017 is a 1500 then yes they will fit. The difference is the offset on the 1999 wheels vs the offset of the wheels that came on the 4th gen trucks. Some sizes match across the generations, some don't and it depends on wheel size.

Do you have factory wheels on the truck now? If so, what size are they?

The difference is also in the front hub size. I know the 4th gen 1500 wheel will not fit my 98 without spacers or widening the hub bore.

OK...if your wheels are the stock 7" x 16" then the offset is +31mm.

The 2017 17" wheels are 7" x 17" which have an offset of +25.4mm or a 5.6mm difference. That means they will only stick out about 1/4" than your stock wheel do. If they are the 8" x 17" wheel then add about a 1/2" additional width on either side of the hub.

You should not have any problem fitting the the wheels.

Just understand that the thread pitch on the newer is M14 x 1.5 ISO standard (metric) where the old wheels are 1/2" x 20 UNF (Unified National Fine thread) so the new wheel lugnuts won't work on your truck. If your current lugnuts don't mate properly you may have to find some with the right pitch thread and shoulder to adequately tighten the wheels to the lugs.

Yep, 98 and earlier 2nd gen Rams center hub is larger. You can enlarge the hub bore, or do a swap from a later model (99-01) and get a little better braking as well I believe. But it's not a simple hub swap.

You might try to use a 14 mm thread tap on an old lugnut to see If they would work. ftd

That hub bore issue is for 2wd trucks only, for the record. For anybody stumbling across this later, 4x4s have no issues

Do you know how much the hub bore needs to be enlarged for them to fit? I'd rather not use spacers.

Offhand i don't. I do know it's not much. Best bet there is taking em to a machine shop with one of your spindles to match em up. Wont be able to run the center caps if they have any though
