i have a 94 12V and now that its getting colder in illinois the truck is just starting to show signs of hard starting but im not too concerned about that. after i start it, it seems like something is flipping on and off. voltmeter will pull down a long way for a second or two then hop right back up. it will do this about every 10 seconds and it cant be good... im not sure what would be turning on and off though... iv changed about every setting in the cab. (ac, defroster, etc.) and it still will do it. it stops as it gets warmed up and i get down the road a ways. it just has to be hard on the alternator or something!

Thanks for any help!

Don't sweat it... Totally normal... It the grid heaters. The pull over 195 Amps during post starting. Everytime they come on the alternator is fighting to keep up with its small 120A supply and can't so the voltage on the gauge falls and the lights dim. Like I said totally normal.
