Okay, I know that this will be a stupid question, but one never knows with the connections with ECM and sensors, etc.

Besides changing the ECM is it a direct swap when going from a 5.2 to a 5.9? And how many different type of sensor changes will need to be made?

I didn't think so, but I had to make sure. I have done engine swaps on vehicles ranging from carb to early GM ECM. Have yet to do one from Dodge and Ford. Thanks for the info on the flywheel as well. Thanks for your reply

Just use the flexplate from the 5.9 on the 5.9 and everything else is the same. Might want to consider replacing the front pump seal on the transmission while you have it out, Possibly the front and rear mains on the engine too.

Good luck!

I replace my 5.2 with a 5.9 in my 98 ram 1500 std trans i had to get a upgrade plug for the coil swapped the throtle body for the stock off the 5.2 had to change the oil pressure sender as the plugs differ from year to year. The problem i have is i can not relearn pcm for the 5.9 as they did not have a 5.9 std in 98 so i have to run on 5.2 tune. Any ideas on how to tune would be great.

I'll be getting a 360 and ECM from a junk yard and will rebuild it. I was going to make sure that it was from a 99-01 (1500), 2002 (2500 & 3500) only. I figured that there were going to be differences from anything before 99 when it came to ECM.

Anyone have any links to send my way for getting more HP from the stock ECM or an upgraded ECM?

Coil plug has to do with year differences. Throttle body has to do with cable connections and those are again based on a year change. As for the PCM, you have several options. 1st being getting an SCT tune for a 360 manual from someplace like FRPTuning.com, 2nd being swapping in a 98 2500 360/5spd PCM in. Plug and play, only real difference is the engine size/map. 2500s and 3500s had the option of a nv4500 5spd behind the v8

Never mind about the ECM question, I found a tuner at Summit Racing
Hypertech sucks, Superchips and Edge kind of suck and are actually the same tune but the Edge has more features. SCT kicks both out of the water. From a performance perspective anyways. I actually run an SCT tune for the performance side of things and used a superchips I picked up stupid cheap to account for tire size but I did NOT adjust the tune with it. SCT doesn't feature tire size adjustment so only adjusting that with the superchips doesn't mess with anything the SCT deals with.

Now I will have to say never mind about this post. I got rid of my 99 and replaced it with an 02 1500 Quad Cab 4.7
