Saturday I drove home with a new 2012 Ram 1500 BigHorn Crew 5.7L in Red. Today is my day off (finally) and I'm gonna do my usual detail that I do to all my vehicles.

I exclusively use Flynn's Detail Products (Flynn's Detail Products - Online Catalog).

The plan:

1. Clay bar and clay spray whole truck and all the glass and chrome
2. I'll probably go with a mild polish then a cream polish to really make the red pop.
3. I'll throw on some synthetic wax called Longevity on the paint, chrome, head & tail lights and all window glass.
4. Re-vacuum everything. Interior glass.
4. If I have time I'll Scotch Guard the interior as well.

Should look real nice when I'm done. Will probably take 3-4 hours to complete.

I'll get some pics up when I'm all done.

If your truck is brand new off the lot, you shouldn't need to clay bar it. Clay actually removes a light layer of paint as it scubs the imperfections that have worked into your clear coat. You shouldn't need to clay more than twice a year. Just a wax job with a good synthetic wax should do fine. I use microfiber rags to dry water spots off. That alone looks like a wax job.

I agree--always clay bar-no matter how old or new. If the foundation isn't good then nothing you put on top of it will be at it's best. Your just waxing/sealing over ground in dirt and other crap.

You'd be surprised how much rail dust vehicles can have embedded in their paint from transport to distribution centers. Sometimes a good session with a clay bar is warranted.

Actually, you would be very surprised at how many contaminants are in the paint when vehicles are brand new off the lot. All the more reason to have it clayed ASAP.

Pic's were taken with my Thunderbolt phone so not the best quality but still came out really good. The picture of the front grill head on is my favorite.

Alot of shat came off the paint with the clay bar, always amazes me. A truck built in June of this year can still collect a good bit of crap in transit. Anyway, I skipped the polish because I didn't feel I needed to. I went to the dealership afterward and schedule my bedliner and window tint. My husky front floor mats should be in by the end of the week. After those mods I'll probably lay low until I can save up some funds. Might change out the fogs to brighter Silverstars... Thinking about having the rocker panels bedlined by the same people who are doing the bed. I do a good bit of deer hunting and the gravel roads will eat them up without some protection. Gotta get some vent shades too. So much to do and such little $$$ to do it with. Good thing my birthday is coming up!

Funny how we can clean our vehicles cleaner than they come as delivered by the dealership new.

It's amazing how good a clay cleaning is. I remember using one for the first time and how surprised I was at how good it came out.
