I'll start first by saying the injectors that i did this to are NOT from a ram. In fact they are from a Cobra Mustang and will be going in my truck when i put together my supercharger. This procedure will however work for the factory 2000+ red injectors as they are of the same USCAR pencil style. Will also work on the 99 down EV1 fat style though it will look slightly different.

I ordered a filter and pintle cap replacement kit from www.osidetiger.com for $15 or so if i remember correctly.
Here is what came in the kit:

The yellow rings are spacers that weren't on the injectors i have so I'm not using them. I also decided to leave the pintle caps on.

Step 1: remove the o-rings
Step 2: take the included sheetmetal screw and clamp it in a vise and thread the injector inlet onto it. I happened to have a hanger like you would typically find in a garage for hanging bikes and such, that had the sane thread width. I used this because the hook basically formed a handle to grab so i didn't need a vise. Thread it in and pull to remove the filter like so.

If what comes out does not have the brass bushing on it you need to thread it in farther.

Step 3: take your new filter and insert it into the open end where the old came out.

Push it in as evenly and s far as you can by hand.

Then tap it into the injector until flush with a small hammer.

IMPORTANT: hold the injector in your HAND as you do so. Do NOT set it against a hard surface or clamp it in a vise as you do so as you'll damage the nozzle.

I decided against replacing the pintle caps because they look fine.

I am somewhat ignorant on fuel injection. What is the significance of the color of the injector bodies? What is USCAR? I have an 01 v10 with a bad injector, can I try this on its injectors?

The red bodies i mentioned look like the blue in my pictures (but are obviously red) and are the style dodge used in 2000+ gas trucks vs the standard black injectors are 99 and older. However they look much different. As in these pics below. USCAR is a specific connector. The old style, jetronic, looks different. USCAR connectors aren't found on the old ev1 style injector but jetronic is found on both.

Yes you can do this to your injectors but i would do an ohm check looking for 11-15 between the 2 pins and listen for an audible click when running using a a stethoscope or screwdriver to listen before doing things like this.

should you lightly oil or grease the o-rings to ease reassembly? what is the pintle, and how should it look? The reason I have so many questions is because I have an 01 v10, with over 200K, and I have one bad injector. I don't have $600 for a set of new injectors. If I have the induction system that far apart, I might as well check all of them. Does anybody sell a good Tool for cleaning injectors, DIY?

When I do new o-ring installs on fuel systems, I use regular petroleum jelly (Vaseline) for lubricating o-rings. It is dissoluble in fuel and will not affect fuel o-rings that may or may not be grease compatible.

Engine oil or petroleum jelly only.
This is the pintle. Long as it is on there securely i see no reason to replace it.
