I have a 2015 Ram 1500 and am thinking of getting a 6" lift and 37s. I am also getting estimates on building a garage. I dont know whether to get the door 8' or 9' tall. My current (full and too short) garage has a door slightly taller than 8' and my truck with 275/60/R20 tires seems to have about two feet of clearance. So, it seems the lifted truck would still easily fit under an 8' door. But, I see a few threads with people saying their trucks with 37s wont fit under a garage door. Am I missing something? Or would those all have to be 7' doors?

I would go with a 9' door if you can, regardless of the lift and tire size you go with. You never know what your future requirements are going to be and it's a hell of a lot cheaper to do the taller door now than later.

Always build bigger than you expect... Maybe your next truck might even be bigger than this.

Bigger the better, I have a 9' x 20' garage door on my 3 1/2 stall garage. You can pull 2 vehicles in at the same time. Figure if I ever sell my place someone could put a boat into the garage without any trouble.

I have a 8' door on my 3 car garage 25'x35'. I have a good foot on my leveled 2500 on 35" tires. I'd think you'd be fine with an 8' door.

You'd be fine with the 8' door but as others have mentioned if you have the option the 9' would be good for any future things like boats on trailers or camper trailers etc.

As you stated, the clearance concern comes into play with a 7 ft door. I've got 6 inch lift on 37's with my 1500 and had to swap my sharkfin for a low profile antenna to squeek in. 8 ft will be plenty. But as others stated... Go 9 to avoid potential regrets. I'm irritated that my 3 car garage has 7 foot doors, especially considering the interior ceiling height is 10.5ft... And it's not a feasible option to adjust due to support and brick rework that would be required.

Oh and do yourself another favor and get a direct mount garage door opener instead of an overhead style. Looks cleaner and gives you more room to ceiling mount if you want to be able to drop kayaks or a camper shell directly into/onto the truck and store out of the way.

Also keep in mind if the ceiling is 10' and you install a 9' door an overhead opener won't have clearance and you will need a side mount opener. I say 12' ceiling and 10' door to have plenty of room for a lift.
