Just before leaving on an 1800 mile round-trip towing this weekend, I received a recall notice this week for my 2012 1500 Laramie. "The front fuel strap on your truck may become loose due to frame bracket corrosion. With the front fuel strap detached, the rear strap primarily secures the fuel tank, however, the front of the fuel tank may be allowed to lower several inches. The vehicle driver may notice a noise, the strap or fuel tank hanging down, frame corrosion, or may be informed during an oil change/state inspection. Detachment of the front fuel tank strap could potentially allow the front of the fuel tank to make contact with the ground, increasing the risk of a fuel leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire. The parts for this condition are not currently available."
I thought it was interesting the notice didn't recommend having it inspected or not driving it if your tank is hanging down. "Just a notice that your truck may or may not turn into a fireball, sorry we don't have the repair parts right now, have a nice day."
They better get it soon...I’m going to the dealer for an oil change next week. And a long trip (1200 mi) the week after. I definitely don!t want to deal with this on the back roads of Maine....
