I have a 2016 2500 6.4 and my wife has a 2017 1500 2017. The 1500 is definitely a smoother ride (as would be expected) and sounds much meaner (even after Mufflex) but after driving a 3/4 ton I don't ever want to go back. I'd love a Cummins just for the C on the side of my truck, but it's a lot of money and the 6.4 meets my needs and then some.

I keep seeing you talk about mpgs in the Cummins over the Hemi, but you're going to have to have that truck for a loooooot of miles for that to pay for itself. Between the almost $8k tacked onto the Cummins, and then (at least in my area) the cost of diesel still being a good bit higher than unleaded.

Think about it this way: if you're financing, is the monthly payment difference between the two going to be made up by your fuel costs?

But at the end of the day, if I could have what I want I'd go out and trade my truck in for a Cummins today. If you've got the money get what you want, just stop trying to convince yourself you're doing it for the mileage :roflsquared:

First off hug the wife for giving the thumbs up on a new truck. I own both models a 2015 sport and a 2016 2500 for work. One of my wife's biggest complaints about the 2500 is climbing in even with side steps and the lumber wagon ride. From what I learned no matter how much power you have if you or the wife hates the ride then the power is useless. Go for the 1500 IMO.

It's not leather, it's vinyl. And it still has the same cloth inserts with the embossed tread pattern.

You can get it full black leather, I know 3 or 4 guys that have it.

If you don't want to wait for the new body style and it will be your last brand new truck get a 2018 1500 Tungsten edition with 3.92 rear.

All my buddies drive 3/4 trucks and they are beautiful but they all ride like 3/4 trucks. If you don't need one (and from what I read you don't) I would stick with a 1/2 ton. I would get the full tow package with the 3.92's (even though you don't really need it either) but if down the road you want to pull something bigger you can and it will pull your current trailer better IMO.

I cant be the only one here who doesnt mind the ride of the 2500? I daily drive it and have 0 complaints. It is a bit stiffer going over bumps but nothing like people make it out to be. And it feels more planted and stable than my 1500 did on most roads. I suppose the Bilsteins help a bit.

It's strange you claim to know that many people that own Rebels, let alone all with leather. I looked at several Rebels before I decided on the one I bought, and none of them had leather. I asked the dealer about it and they said leather is not an option on the Rebel. My girlfriend bought a black Rebel and has the same cloth/vinyl seats, although hers are all black and not black/red like mine are. Not calling you out, just trying to get accurate information.

As to the OP's original question, You'll probably have buyers remorse either way you go. It sounds like you have your heart set on a3/4 ton so you might as well just get that and don't look back.

I'm pretty sure I/we want the 1500, I'm a welder at my work, I have tons of time under my welding hood to think and I was thinking today that I really do not need a 2500.
Burly looking, hell yes, power up the ying yang, hell ya, expensive, well ya, but we just don't need one.
With that said, talk me into the 3.92s, I just pull 3,000 pounds at the most and the 3.21s do a excellent job.
This new truck is going to be with me for a long time, I want to do it up right.
I'm leaning towards the Laramie Longhorn with the Filigree leather.
All you guys have gave me some great advice, I want to thank you all that responded.

It's unfortunate that the 1500 Outdoorsman trim isn't available with some of the higher level options.
With the HD suspension on that trim, it may have been a good compromise between a 1500 and 2500.

As far as the 3:92's go? Don't even think twice.
You won't regret getting them.
There is an awfully good chance you'll regret not getting them.

my pointer.......why buy the last model year of the current design. If you like the new design of the soon to be 5th gen, your gonna want out of your 4th gen 2018 model. Of course, if you hate the new design debuting in 2019, than you'll be ok.....

decisions decisions

Just my 2 cents.

Love how my 2500 rides. I can't stand trucks that ride like cars. Level them and put big mud tires on them and they look massive. No worries about over loading. Never go back to a half ton.

I would say you go 3.92 without a doubt. IMO if you are buying a truck and especially planning on keeping it, option it out like a truck and just get the lowest gear possible.

Problem is like 90% of trucks dealers order they order the standard gears. I knew going in without a doubt i would have to custom order my 2500 to get 4.10s. The HDs are even harder to find on a lot with lower gears than the 1500s.

I still think I will stay with the 3.21s, I just don't see myself getting a heavy trailer to pull all the time in the future, especially over 8.000 pounds.

It sounds like you are going to buy the exact same truck you already have but 3 years newer. Does your current truck have a lot of miles?
