Hey guys,
I recently broke my Passport IQ windshield mounted radar detector/navigation unit, and with my recent purchase of my Laramie, I don't really need the navigation feature I had before so I am considering replacing it with a 9500ix with a mirror mount.

I want to direct wire the radar detector with this wiring kit, but with my recent install of the BullyDog, I didn't notice a small fuse box readily available in the cab.

If I order the hard wire kit, where would you guys recommend tapping into for power? I am worried that the wire I purchase won't reach all the way into the factory fuse box under the hood.

Thanks,

JH

I had both my 9500ix and now my Passport Max wired with the Smartcord to the power point in the center console. It's switched power and works just fine.

I have the Escort hard-wire kit for my 9500i. It was tough finding an acc +12V in the cab. I did find one on my rear brake controller (smallest plug), and it was easy to run up the A-pillar from there. Cig lighter is another (like unbroken already said). You could go with a mirror tap as well.

My 9500 Passport I ram a 12v switched tapped off the fuse box under the hood. Fused it in there too. Just found the fuse for the Cig lighter and tapped the wire underneath. Ran wire through factory grommet into the cab and up the A pillar into the headliner. Ran some wire loom around the wire under the hood and it looks 100% stock. Good luck!

I too had a **** of a time finding someplace to connect to. Closest place I found was the switched cig lighter plug. Had to pull apart the center console to get to the back and tap off that.

The wire in the kit reaches all the way around to that spot? If I have to splice an extension, I will take it all the way to the battery.

Could you snap a photo of your install? Don't disassemble or anything, just general pics.

You purchased the kit from Escort I take it? The wire reached all the way to the battery? Or did you splice an extension?

I ran my own extension. Used a "t" splicer that clips onto the wire under the fuse block. Very easy to get to. Hooked negative straight onto the battery.

Poked a small hole in the grommet that the hood latch release cable comes through. Splice onto the Passport hardwire kit right in the drivers side kick panel. I can get pics tomorrow if you still need them

Not sure what this "kit" is for the passport, but for my v1 I just tapped into the wiring for the switched 12 volt plug with those t connectors. You really don't need a dedicated "circuit" for it.

I would recommend going to the blendmount.com website and looking into the invisicord. That will let you tap into the power in the rearview mirror itself.
