long story short is I have a 01 1500 4x4, it had a 98 trans put in it. I swapped the sensors and the wiring(all new) inside the trans over to be compatible with the 01.

What the trans is doing now.
1-2 shifts are fine. The 2-3 shift is a high rpm shift, when it does shift it is a smooth shift. When let off gas it will down shift from 3 to second.

If can’t get this fixed going to get a rebuilt unit with a 3 year 75k mile warranty for $1400.

Who is the $1400 one through? Those transmissions stock seemed to be a lot of problems. Our family had 3 trucks like that a 95, 98 and much later around 2006 a 99. The 99 was the only that the tranny went out on. I remember looking at that time and seeing that there were companies that build beefed up ones.

Sounds like it could need an adjustment on the kick-down linkage.

That, the cable could be sticking, or the return spring and bracket (down on the trans) may need attention.

The 46re transmissions most common issues were Pressure Solenoid and/or Sensor. The rest of the issues usually seemed to come from neglect. That's as far as I can tell. The dodge owners I've known personally never seem to replace trans filter or adjust the bands like the manual says to do. The upside is that because Chrysler used these transmissions in just about everything back then the parts are easy to come by and some performance parts are dirt cheap. For instance my 96's front band is 11 bucks but I can get a Kevlar band for 12 bucks.

I do agree with the others on this OP should check Throttle Valve Cable at both ends. These transmissions have very little in way of controls. AFAIK there is a pressure solenoid, pressure sensor, OD solenoid and a TC lockup solenoid. All other shifting issues tend to be the TV cable. Loaping in 1st gear and/or rough shifting from 1st to 2nd (like it's hunting for a gear) is usually signs of a clogged Pressure Solenoid. (it was for mine anyway).

Thanks I will check both ends of it and see what is going on. I want my truck back. Put so much into it. Don’t need it to be sitting in the yard

Well checked both ends and did adjustments. Still have the high rpm shift into 3rd. So any other thing to do before just getting another trans?
