Help with 4.7 coils 02-05 vs 08 up

On the 08 and up 4.7 engines they use a 2 plug per cylinder head. They also use a coil pac with 2 plug wires. What I would like to know...is the input voltage/ signal the same going in to the coil PAC as the single plug set up??? I know it's an odd question but thinking about trying a head swap on my 4.7 to see if I can get more power. I would need to swap the coil packs out too and it would seem to me that I could just wire them into the harness and they would work but I don't really get how they work compared to each other.
I guess I think if I changed the plug ends it would work. Any info would help.
