I bought these from allmoparparts.com and got it 2 days later. These lights are SMALL! Makes the glove box light look huge. That said, they're very well made. They are in fact LED in a warm white color. I was expecting it to be an incandescent filament bulb.
Part number: 55057282ab
Quantity required: 2
I also thought it would be 100% plug and play. That makes this DIY write up that much more useful.
1) Expose both harnesses if you are prewired. Driver side is taped to a harness to the left and forward of the brake pedal. Untape it. The passenger side harness is right under the finishing plate under the dash board. Remove 3 Christmas tree clips and place panel aside.
2) You'll see there are no places ready to install AND secure these lights on either side. Here is my take on it as I believe it is meant to be done. Both lights have a foam pad that APPEARS to be a double sided tape. It is NOT. So, on both lights, pull the foam off completely remove any residue off and apply two small pieces of 3m tape as pictured.
3) Starting on the drivers side, if you look up by the OBD2 port, there's a portion of plastic with two holes; one round and one square. The square one is what you will use. If you feel above it, you can feel ridges that serve as guides for the placement of the light. I have taken a picture of said ridges.
4 ) Take an alcohol pad to the surface and remove the backing from the tape. Apply the light with the extruding connection piece towards the FRONT of the truck. It just makes the harness not as stretched to make the connection. Use the ridges and cut out in the plastic to center the LED in the hole.
5) Moving on to the passenger side, locate the indented image of a rounded square in the carpeted panel. It is towards the seat and centered on the panel.
6) Place a piece of painters tape over it as you will be drawing on it.
7) Using the light as a rough guide, take a pencil and trace the outline of the light on the tape making a squarish shape centered on the square.
8) Then, using not much more than your eye, draw the outline of the light diffuser cover in the middle of the tape illustrating a 2D image of the top of the light.
9) With a sharp knife, cut the hole of the INNER markings only. Do NOT cut the outer markings. They are just used as reference!
10) Test fit the light and trim as necessary. If done properly, it will fit tight and actually stay snug even when shook and flipped like mine.
11) while I did use a 3m tape on this side too, I do not know how well that will hold attached to the carpet on the under side. I will likely use a dot or two of crazy glue gel or epoxy to attach from the back side.
12) once tape backing or glue/epoxy is applied, put the light in with the connection towards the passenger door, again, just to give the harness as much slack as possible.
13) connect harness, test light and reinstall carpet panel and push clips.
you are done! Enjoy the lighted foot wells with every opening of the doors. very neat that they actually fade off. not just on or off like a lot of LEDs. its got some circuitry inside. very much worth the $53 shipped for both lights.
