I've been reading and I've came to the conclusion that I can haul roughly 1,800lb in the bed (plenty)
But my towing is rated at 7,200lb.

I've determined that I've got a transmission and power steering coolers. What is there that I can do to be able to pull more without hurting performance when not towing?

For the record I don't have anything that I'm currently trying to tow, just wondering.

What gear ratio do you have? Also, the only difference between the 1500 and 2500 mega are the leaf springs. You could pick up some 2500 junk yard leaf springs and swap them fairly easily.

2006 1500 4x4 Mega SLT:

3.73 = 1980 lbs payload / 7300 lbs max tow
4.10 = 1980 lbs payload / 8300 lbs max tow

2006 2500 4x4 Mega SLT:

3.73 = 2220 lbs payload / 8250 lbs max tow
4.10 = 2220 lbs payload / 10250 lbs max tow

I'm not sure. I've looked at the door sticker and I don't see anything that looks like a gear code. I don't have the glovebox sticker. Where did you find your info? I always seem to have difficulty finding mega cab info

I have an 08 Megacab with the hemi as well. I run 4.56 gears. Truck feels like a tank when pulling/towing anything. You don't even know anything is back there.

Use a weight distribution hitch and chip your truck for towing.

this great information because my 06 mega cab is a dog towing my 24ft enclosed trailer 7800lbs , on the hills, it feels like someone threw a boat anchor out with 3.73 gears. I have been looking at the gears option and was thinking 4.56 but I also drive it on the highway 3hr trips upstate.I went to Virginia and ave. 13.4 mpg for the trip. any other info would be greatly appreciated. P.S i am also new here to the board.
