This might be a crazy and stupid question, but is it possible to put a cummins swap in my 2005 ram 1500, and if so where abouts is the price of doing so??
from what i have read, it is not worth it, too much $$ and tons of work. Hemi owner myself and have been thinkin about a cummins lately, but the hemi suits me just fine. Few others have posted about a swap recently, from what i read it's just soo much work with the engine, trans, motor mounts, computer, list goes on and on, also don't think the frame on a 1500 would be able to handle the extra weight/power of a cummins. Cummins guys should be here soon to chime in lol
definatly not worth it you need new motor mounts, reinforced frame, upgraded suspension, trans. mounts and what ever else i could not think of but the more power to you if you do it
Swaps are done all the time. Most cases they are built for drag racing.
If you have any kid of budget it's not worth it.
A better project would be selling your truck, buying a cummins and build that truck how you want it.
There's a guy local to me with a cummins in an f150, said as cool as it is it's not worth it
I looked into doing this a few years ago. It was cheaper for me to do the custom paint. As others have said, in addition to the motor and tranny, you'd have to swap the frame. I was looking at a regular cab 8ft bed donor truck...but just with the time in fab work and everything else...would of been cheaper to buy a Cummins.
Its been done, a RCSB did it a year or so ago and posted up all the steps and issues he had on the "other" forum. Need a doner truck to do it though as you'll need to pull a few things for it.
I'm still tempted to do a 5.9 Swap on an old 5.4 Reg Cab Long bed F250.
Swaps are what you make of them. No, it won't be cheap. Then again, chances are nor is buying a new truck. Can you pick up a used Cummins for less than a swap, Very likely. Is it as fun? No. Is it a smarter idea to buy, YES.
