So basically what im looking to do is install an Ipad or a Samsung galaxy tab into my dash, Id like to find a dash kit that would fit it directly however I doubt I will so my question is how do i go about cutting the dash to fit the tablet? I got a Dodge Ram 1500, 2003. This wouldn't be a problem but just because of how the plastic is shaped I see myself running into some problems so I thought id come here and ask for some suggestions perhaps some of you have already done this before. I will post pictures of what the dash looks right now and how I want it to look when im done.

WE ARE DONE WITH THE PROJECT!! HERE IS THE OUTCOME, THE CARDBOARD WAS USED AS A FRAME/MOLDING. Good luck to whoever attempts to do the same, spent about 5 hours in total on this, couldnt get a picture with the tablet in the dash itself due to my phone is broken all the pictures were taken with the tab.

AND THE FINAL PRODUCT, DIDNT TURN OUT AS GOOD AS I WOULD HAVE HOPED BUT HAD NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN DOING THIS.

Cut the dash today, got myself a HP tablet 10,1" screen and it fits perfectly just got some chopping to do and tomorrow im going to look around and see what kind of material i can use to fabricate the rest, got telfon and some plastic from an old shower wall that we pulled out the other day, this is going to be a project that will cost less than $150.:)

I made the "frame" i guess today out of cardboard and fiberglass, also got the hole for the heater panel to fit in so now is when the ****** sanding putting body filler on is starting this is actually not as hard as i thought it would be

things usually aren't if you take the time and follow the steps correctly...lol I figure I'm pretty capable... If some of those yahoos on TV can do someting, I should be able to as well.

Best project can't wait to see the outcome. I do have a question though, what is the purpose of doing a iPad in dash? I understand that you basically have your iPad on the go always, but far as audio systems go are they good for that?

To me it honestly just looks better and sure they'll be as good as any deck and you got your navigation also and i like to be on the go all the time and i cant sit down and not do anything so this is a great time killer for me

Cool never knew like I said how the audio would be from this compared to a actual head unit whether it was single or double din. I may consider this, only reason why I am is because I'm not to handy at fabricating. Btw I have no idea why the hell I said in my first post best project, meant to say awesome project lol

This is what it currently looks like, still got some sanding to do to finish it off and i was thinking about maybe putting some chrome around the lines all the way just to kinda cover up some flaws http://i.imgur.com/hQyYErq.jpg

Because I did not have the time and patience to do it like 67datto I took a different approach to the problem:
picture.php

I fabricated a bracket to hold the tablet in front of the storage compartment, and I use a Bluetooth cassette adapter to feed the music through Bluetooth in the head unit.

I am really considering swapping this for a more "integrated" solution like you guys are doing but it will be in the future... Maybe my next truck.
