Issues with factory front end link removal

    Hello everyone,

    I'm currently in the process of replacing the Hellwig front sway bar, and I wanted to put new F-150 end links on the front, however I am having a hard time removing the bottom bolt from the end link. I'm holding the top of the end link with a wrench and using a ratchet to remove the bolt, but the bolt turns with some resistance, but the bolt isn't moving. Is there something else keeping this bolt from coming out?

    I appreciate the help!

    I used vice grips on the upper portion of the stock end link, mine became sacrificial.

    The top portion doesn't move at all when I'm spinning the nut at the bottom because my wrench is holding it firm just under the top threads. Should I be holding the end link at a different location?

    You will need to hold the lower hex when loosening the lower nut. I encountered the same thing and right before I took a sawzall to it....I noticed the lower hex. I used a ratcheting box end wrench for the nut and a 5/16? box for the hex.

    Quite possibly the most frustrating design I have ever seen in my life. My 3/4 12 point box wrench wouldn't hold the recessed bolt without slipping as i turned the 5/16 hex at the bottom, while no other size I had worked on it. My Flex Heads also wouldn't fit up there.

    So they are still on the truck until I can source a tool that will work in that recessed hole, while simultaneously allowing another socket / wrench for the bottom hex bolt.

    Frustrating is right....hence my sawzall comment. I was able to get a 19mm wrench in there at an angle and wedge it up against the frame just enough to hold the nut stationary, then started turning the hex (it was a bitch) but it worked.

    Found a way to take that thing off. I went down to Sears and found a Max Access Rachet which allows the threaded part of the bottom to slide through the ratchet, keeping access to the bottom hex.

    Tools I used for that bottom bolt:

    - 1/4 Inch Drive Ratchet
    - 6 inch 1/4 inch extension
    - 5/16" Socket

    -3/8 Inch Drive Max Access Rachet
    - 3 Inch 3/8 inch Max Access Extension
    - 18 Inch, Max Access Socket
