comrades:

i recently put my stock air filter " system " back on truck.

recall appointment monday...

didnt want the dealer to take notice.

frankly, i think the truck runs better with stock filter on it. plus, the mds coming on does not make my inner ears itch anymore with the drone...

the k n is a quality piece for sure - im not knocking that.

i have had the k n on it for 16,000 miles.

cheers!

Unless you got a tuner to support the intake then I say leave it off. Especially if it is an open box intake since they have a tendency to cause you to loose power due to ingesting hot engine air instead of cooler external air.

K&N sucks hot air, I've got one in the garbage right now that I finally threw out. The Vararam is the only way to go.

I would not run an open filter kit on my vehicles due to the hot air issue.

AFE just came out with a cold air kit with an enclosed box, reusable filter and it takes the air from the stock fender location. I'd highly recommend that sort of an arrangement over a K&N open filter FIPK design.

A closed unit is always better than a open unit. With the exception of the varam- that being said if you live somewhere with snow precipitation or heavy rain fall I would opt for a closed intake system like " afe/s&b". I've seen pictures of the varam intake getting packed with snow. just something to think about

Just do factory airbox mod, I ran 3" black pipe down to behind tow hook. Use quality drop in, k@n gets hot air from engine bay, not good. Sounds good, but all show no go. If I wanted to spend money on intake and exhaust, I would go with the vararam and a good cat back. Otherwise just get good drop in., I did airbox mod, but really did nothing at all. The factory intake is already cold, so maybe a little more air, but unless you do the exhaust and tune it, it's probable just a waste of time and money.

Too bad you guys can't swap in the active air intakes that are on the diesels. That would be awesome.

sorry, no that is the only pic I have.. It is basically the same as the K&N, has a hole for the sensor, and the metal tube coming off with the rubber hose attached.. Not sure what that is for, but oem air tube had it and the k&n has it... It is a 4 inch pipe, believe it was a 30 degree bend that he just kept measuring and cutting until it was the right size.. then used some sandpaper to brush it up a little....

Nukegm I have to agree took my KN kit off and put stock back on and I swear truck runs better, maybe it's less hot air? I think the K&N probably does help at wide open throttle and high rpm's but my truck never sees that

Get that fiber glass hood that directs "Ram Air" from the hood scoop over to the top of the air filter box- Only time I would consider the K&N Style Cai-

I thought that too! If only.

I think the truck runs really strong with the factory box. I decided Im leaving mine alone unless another company comes out with a box that has proven dyno'd results from a few sources. I dont trust K&N much either.
